Mike Saxl
Managing Principal
Mike Saxl became Managing Principal of Maine Street Solutions and Counsel to Verrill Dana, LLP following his service as Speaker of the House in the 120th Maine Legislature (2000-2002). At Maine Street Solutions, Mike has helped numerous businesses and associations navigate difficult legislative matters, assisted clients with community relations and provided various public relations services. Mike and his team work both in Maine and the northeast region, and with several clients throughout the United States. They specialize in state government relations, procurement, grassroots and grasstops communications, and press relations.
Mike has spent his career working in and around public policy and politics. He has worked in diverse positions ranging from the public sector at the state and federal levels to providing lobbying and consulting services to businesses and industry interests. This diverse experience has helped shape the multi-lateral, integrated approach Mike brings to Maine Street Solutions clients.
While representing his Portland district, Mike pursued a variety of initiatives, from seeking increased access to affordable healthcare, to championing tax credits aimed at creating new educational opportunities. Prior to serving as Speaker, he served as Majority Leader (1998-2000) and Majority Whip (1996-1998). As a legislator, Mike honed his expertise on many diverse issues ranging from healthcare and higher education to tax reform and domestic violence. In 2009, he was asked to serve as a Margaret Chase Smith Distinguished Maine Policy Fellow at the University of Maine. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America - 2010 and 2012 editions - in the area of Government Relations Law.
Mike is a graduate of Bowdoin College, and received his law degree cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law.
